3/20/2012 4:58 AM ET (RTTNews) – Morbilliviruses, which are known to cause significant mortality in human beings and animals like horses and dogs, have now been discovered in cats, and found to associated with a mysterious fatal kidney disease in them, according to a new study. The study conducted by researchers in Hong Kong, led by Yuen Kwok-yung, tested 457 stray cats from Hong Kong and mainland China for the presence of the virus, dubbed feline morbillivirus, by examining the urine, rectal swabs, and blood samples. According to the study results, the virus was detected in 56 (12.3%) of the stray cats examined.
